Kindness Is Not An Option

fruit of the spiritSome people have very sweet tempers and kindness is easy for them. Then you have the rowdy ones who need to be reigned back with some loving discipline  Kindness is not the first response for many people. It has to be taught. Fortunately, the Holy Spirit can help out there.

It just happens that kindness is an aspect of God. When we have Him living inside us, we have the ability to put on His aspects. In fact, we are required to. God is kind, so we are required to be kind. What ever we’ve been given, we need to give out. And the more we give, the more we’re given.

Putting on the fruits of the Spirit takes an intentional decision. I will be kind. Holy Spirit, help me to be kind. Forgive me for those times when I have been unkind. Remove any attitudes that move me to respond in an ungodly way. Fill me with Your goodness so I can give out goodness.

When we know we are weak in certain areas, we are responsible to do something about it. Only God can change a heart, so God is the first place to go. Don’t let up. Our human nature has a long history of practicing selfishness, so there may be a lot of unlearning to do to start living God’s kingdom culture–love, joy, peace, patience, kindness goodness, self-control, faithfulness  gentleness.

Decide to be what you’ve been called to be. That change comes by intimacy with God.
