How High Will Humility Take You?

Humility will actually raise you up.

A humble heart repents quickly.

I love reading about David. I’m a big fan of his. When Nathan went to David and confronted him with his sin, David wasn’t offended. He wasn’t defensive. He humbled himself immediately. He cried out to God and confessed his sin and God loved him for it. His humility is a big part of why God made David’s throne an everlasting throne.

Everything about the kingdom of God is upside down world. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. (Jam 4:10) Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. (1 Pet 5:6)

You have to be humble before you are exalted so you can handle being raised up. If you are raised up first, you’ll think it was your own doing. God wants to raise us up, so He gives us clear direction for what He needs us to do. Are you called to be a leader? Humble yourself now.

Humility is not weak. When David’s wife Michal despised him for dancing in the street before the ark of the covenant, David said, And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. (2 Sam 6:22) His humility was backed with fire.

Humility will take you far in the kingdom–far into the deep places of God where others won’t go. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. (1 Pet 5:5) Lay down your defensiveness and let God pour in humility. Your life will be full of grace because of it.
