Why Confession Is Healthy

Confessing sin can make you healthy

We do ourselves a lot of harm by holding onto sinful attitudes. It can make us sick. David described what it was like when he failed to repent. When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me. My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. (Ps 32:3-4)

We think of sin as overt–lying, stealing, and murder, but anger, unforgiveness, and pride are sinful attitudes that we need to repent of as well. When we act out of a sinful response, we invite the consequences of that sin into our lives. Those consequences can be sickness, depression, poverty, “bad luck”.

It’s up to us to get ourselves out of it. I acknowledge my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. (Ps 32:5) Humble yourself before God and repent of anything that you know you need to let go of.

Blessed is the man whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. (Ps 32:1) There is blessing when we repent. Blessing brings the good things that God wants for us. Don’t suffer needlessly and block the goodness of God in your life. Take care of it and be blessed.
