Are You Jacob?

A great way to find blessing

God has an interesting name for those who seriously want to find Him. This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him. (Ps 24:6) Notice the verb – seek is not the same thing as believe. We can have knowledge of God, but He is not impressed with that. He wants us to dig in and look for Him.

One of my favorite ways to seek Him is in His word. I keep a highlighter by my side whenever I read the Bible. Even on my iPhone, I highlight my online Bible. Whenever I read a verse that speaks to me, I highlight it. Some people use color coding for different types of teaching.

I encourage you to do this. Start marking promises or insights as you read. If you want to start in Genesis fine, but there are no Brownie points for reading straight through. I find fields of treasure in the Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, and the minor prophets.

There are times when I really need to flip through and find those highlighted areas. They encourage me and reaffirm why they are important. God wants us to dig into the word and find the gems He has hidden in there. When we seek Him, He promises to be found and that is always in blessing.
