Your Attention Is Required

Following God takes some work

If you’re not paying attention, you’re not following

Following God as a believer can seem confusing. Are we supposed to make a joyful shout to the Lord or be still and know that He is God? Are we supposed to walk boldly into His throne room of grace or humble ourselves before Him?

The thing is, it’s not an either/or situation, it’s both. If it were either/or, then we’d have a formula, and that would make us happy. We love patterns to follow because the thinking is already done–no more thinking, just doing.

God has better plans for us than that. He wants our attention. He wants us following Him, stopping when He stops, turning where He turns. Sometimes we need to shout, sometimes we need to be still. He gives the direction and we are obligated to listen. It’s a guarantee that He will change things up so we have to pay attention.

When we fail to follow His direction, we find ourselves acting outside of His grace. Everything we do will feel lifeless and dull. Time to repent and get back in step with Him. Suddenly we feel the life of His Spirit breathing on our obedience and the blessing that comes with it. It’s a daily walk, so be sure that you are walking the right direction today.
