We often think of the shield of faith as being our defense against the enemy. Our trust in God keeps us out of harm’s way. But the shield has a deeper, greater power that we need to grasp. It is truth.
His truth shall be your shield and buckler. (Ps 91:4) Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (Jn 14:6) His truth is actually who He is. He is the essence of truth. When we have Christ living within us, we have His truth acting as a filter to everything we see, hear, say, or think. That filter comes with an alarm that goes off when we are faced with a lie. When we recognize the lie, we are protected from harm. The lies of the enemy ravage too much of the body of Christ.
If you don’t hear the lie alarm going off when it should, ask God to help your hearing. Growth is a process. Line upon line, precept upon precept. Polish your shield to such a shine that it reflects back on the enemy and never even touches you. A buckler is a small shield used to protect the sword hand, your offensive weapon. His truth and His word go together to protect you in ways you will never know.
