Be Wise In Your Mistakes

Be open to correction

Be open to correction

If you are a Christian, then you are a minister of the gospel. You may not have a position in the church as such, but you are to be a city on a hill, a light to the world. What you do and how you live your life matters.

Most of the time we don’t allow our light to shine because we’re afraid of the consequences. We’re afraid of the opinion of other people. Other times we hold back because we’re afraid of doing something wrong or not being perfect. Let’s just agree right now that you will be wrong and imperfect. That’s not a big deal.

A ship’s course is easily corrected after it sails, but it’s not going anywhere sitting in the dock. It’s far better to make a mistake than do nothing at all. God expects that we will make mistakes. I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart and watch to see what He will say to me and what I will answer when I am corrected. (Hab 2:1)

It’s our job to be the light, to listen to His voice, and be humble in our correction. Don’t take offence, learn from it. It will strengthen you and help you in the next steps. Don’t beat yourself up either. Poverty and shame will come to him who distains correction, but he who regards a rebuke will be honored. (Prov 13:18) There is honor in learning from a mistake.
