Love Covers A Multitude Of Sins

multitude of sinSometimes we forget that other people are human. We understand our own mistakes and failings, but other people should be perfect. There is something in our nature that makes it so easy to be critical of even the tiniest flaw. Judgement flies out of our mouth and we feel superior by pointing out something that isn’t perfect.

Do a little research today and make a mental note of every time you say or think something critical. I am horrified by how much I say that shouldn’t be said.

We should strive for perfection, but Godly perfection, not human perfection. It is through His Spirit that we are transformed by the renewing of our mind to love instead of criticize. Give that critical spirit over to God and ask for a heart of love. Just because you see problems in others doesn’t mean that you have to say anything about it.

To offset criticism, pray the opposite of what you see in someone. Cover them with prayer for good things. Is an organization failing? Pray for it. Is there weak leadership? Ask God  to strengthen the leaders with wisdom and understanding. Do you work with someone totally annoying? Pray for them. Your love will be powerful in ways you do not see right away. It’s okay to forgive, again.

And above all things, have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins. (1Pet 4:8) That’s a lot of sins. Don’t you wish people would love you through your failings?
