Your world is about to fall apart. Everything you know is wrong. All your plans are screwed up. Time for a nap.
Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. (Matt 8:23-24) I love this story. The disciples were terrified. They saw their lives flashing before their eyes because they were going to die, they just knew it. But Jesus slept with the peace of One who knows the safety of Presence.
When we seek first the kingdom of God, we can rest, really rest. No tension, no worry, no staring at the ceiling trying to figure out how to make the car payment. Real rest is absolute trust that everything will work out for our best because we know all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Rom 8:28) Perfect love casts out all fear, so you can rest. Doesn’t that sound divine! Set your heart to love God above all things so He can give you rest. And when you get that kind of rest, you can speak to the storms and tell them to be at peace. If Jesus did it, so can you.
