Learning to know God is exactly that–learning. It’s a process. I can only imagine what it must be like for a blind person to understand color. That’s what I think it’s like to understand God.At first we don’t get it, then slowly we begin to understand His goodness and greatness. If we want to know more, we will learn more. If we don’t, we’ll never understand who He really is.
Long standing tradition says that God is distant and judgmental If we can get past that, we might see Him as powerful and able to answer prayers. That’s all good, but it doesn’t take us where He wants us to go. He’s more than a gift dispenser, He’s our greatest Lover.
Getting our head around the truth that God’s love for us is massive takes some effort. We need to know the width and length and depth and height, to know the love of Christ which passes all understanding. (Eph 3:18-19) If we can receive that, it will radically change our perspective of who we are and how we are to live, and love.
To get to know God is to get to know how much He loves us. We are precious to Him. We are His delight. If you can’t believe that, ask Him to renew your mind and fill you with all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him. (II Pet 3:1) Knowledge of Him takes you straight to His heart.
