We know about God speaking to us in a still, small voice. It’s an aspect of Him that frustrates me sometimes because it makes me stop and wonder, did I just hear Him or not? Maybe that’s why I love it when He gets noisy, there’s no missing Him then. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind. (Act 2:2) A big, noisy sound from heaven, not dainty flutes and harps. That’s God out of the box.
And I heard a voice from heaven like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. (Rev 14:2) He knows when to declare how big He is. There are times when we really need to hear that. We’re so quick to have Him labeled and understood and He just loves to come in a shake things up to remind us that we have no idea how big He is. I love that. It makes me feel like a little kid standing in front of the enemy and saying, “Oh, yeah! Tell that to my big Brother!” Because I know Who is standing behind me.
As much as I love the intimacy of my God in the quiet times, I really want to hear Him be big and powerful. I’m not threatened by that because I belong to Him, but the enemy will flee seven ways. I want to see God cut loose more in my life and hear that sound from heaven. He’s noisy. I just love that.
Amen! Bring the thunder on!
