There’s something about sound that moves heaven. We like to pray silently and contemplate things in our head, but God wants to hear it out loud, specifically praise. Praise should not be something we do under our breath. We are told over and over to sing praise, praise the Lord! When we do that, it seems to sweep away anything that blocks our access to God.
When we praise God, it raises us out of depression. Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God. For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God. (Ps 43:5)
When we make our praise audible, we literally call down God’s grace on us. Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. (Ps 89:15)
The requirement to praise out loud is yet another way to get us out of ourselves. And not just playing praise music, which is awesome, but literally praising God with our own mouths. It’s not about us anyway, it’s about Him. If we are too holy or insecure to make a joyful sound for Him, then we don’t understand the ways of God at all. Besides, He’s the one who said to do it, so that’s the way, end of story. Make an effort to praise the Lord everyday in your home and see if it doesn’t change the atmosphere and effect your family. When you open heaven in your home, it’s going to make a difference.
