Not only is it a command to love others and treat them with the same respect and love that we want to be treated with, there’s a very cool effect that comes from it. And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. (Job 42:10)
Job was seriously amazing. That’s why God could use him to show this important principle – we are blessed when we put others first, even when we are in dire need our self. God is not looking for sermonizing prayers listing of all the issues we see in other people. He’s looking for love, for deep concern and caring.
God responded to Job’s graciousness not to take offense at his friends’ lack of compassion by doubling everything He restored. God is amazingly generous when we are faithful obey Him. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
The gospel is all about loving God and loving others. When we can live with that mindset, then we are a blessed people.
