Walking with God is a daily experience. We don’t receive salvation like a big pill and assume we’re done. Jesus said, My sheep hear My voice and I know them, and they follow Me. (Jhn 10:27) If you’re not walking with Jesus daily, you’ll never get to know His voice.
Plenty of people will be surprised to find that their walk never included Jesus. And then I will declare to them, I never knew you. Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness. (Mat 7:23) These were people who prophesied, cast out demons, and did many wonders in His name. And yet, they never knew Jesus. They were more interested in what He could do and not who He was.
A relationship is built over time. If we knew all we needed to know about God when we came into the kingdom, we’d never have a need to keep talking to Him. When we talk to Him, He reveals Himself to us in the bites that we can handle. As we grow stronger in faith and closer to Him, He can give us bigger and bigger bites, but it must be a daily interaction.
When we are hungry to know more about Him, He reveals layer upon layer. And the deeper we move in the Spirit, the more we see how ugly our own heart is. As we take a step closer to Him, He will remove an ugly aspect from us. It’s not an easy transaction, but worth the purifying of His fire.
Look today and find the truth that the Lord is teaching you. Let Him take out pride, doubt, and anger and fill you with humility, faith, and joy. It will help you hear His voice, and that’s a voice you want to hear forever.
