We’ve been taught to believe that God is a concept, that He is love–an emotion, or a power figure too remote for us mere humans to understand. I don’t believe that. I believe that we’ve been created to know exactly who He is.
God is all-powerful, all-knowing. He lives outside of time and space so He can be everywhere at once. Yes, He is love, but He is also joy, mercy, and wisdom. He is the source of all things that are good. He is the enemy of evil, pain, sickness, poverty, and loss.
All of creation was made for us to live with Him. All of it. He made everything so would know who He was and live in His divine plan of salvation and love.
His story is told in the Bible. He begins by showing Himself to the prophets and laying guidelines for us to understand Him. Then He sent His Son Jesus, the part of Himself that came to show us how to live as we are meant to live. Jesus rose from the dead and made a way for us to have the actual relationship that God intended all along. Then He sent His Holy Spirit, the third part of Himself, to give us the power to live righteously in an evil world. We can receive His Spirit inside us so we literally live in Him.
We can know Him because He wants us to know Him. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (Rev 3:20) He’s knocking at the door of your life. All you have to do is ask Him to come in. To dine with someone is to be familiar, friendly. You talk together and get to know each other.
Do you want to know who God is? Let Jesus come in and He’ll show you.
