Happy are the people whose God is the Lord. (Ps 144:15) Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God. (Ps 146:5) I don’t do math, but I see this equation: people + trust + God = happy. Don’t think you’re very happy in life? Maybe your equation looks like this: people + no trust + God = not happy.
I love that it’s a given that if we trust God we’ll be happy. That doesn’t imply that things will be easy, just that circumstances won’t take away our joy. There’s always joy in hope because hope comes from promise and the One who promises never lies. That makes me very happy. The kingdom of God is full of happy people. We can get so inundated with life that we compromise our trust in God and stand with one foot in the kingdom and one foot out. That’s a bad place to be. It’s weak. God can’t trust us with greater authority if we’re not in with both feet. The happy people of God carry a powerful anointing because they trust Him, completely. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart! (Ps 32:11)
