And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues, they will take up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly it will by no means hurt them, they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover. (Luke 16:17-18)
Those signs actually do follow some people. They are walking, talking believers of Jesus. Then there are the others. For some reason, it’s not cool with them to even believe that demons still exist, that they can be supernaturally protected, that people can be healed without a doctor. It’s as if Jesus was lying.
Are you a believer or an unbeliever?
While not sure of all of the implications of your used text (Gospel of Mark, by the way), I agree that it seems we have become a people with much more confidence in our own provision rather than our God’s. Of course the greatest of miracles is found in a righteous and Holy God becoming a man and redeeming His sinful people… a sinful people who are changed in Christ with new desires and new motivations… miraculous! We have moved so far away from the supernatural life that Jesus modeled. I wonder what our world would be like if we lived like that.
