Who Is Jesus? Part 1

Jesus is GodUnderstanding God as a trinity is tricky. We are people born in one body. There just isn’t a part of us that has an independent life outside of our own skin. To really understand that God is three different people and one person at the same time is like trying to imagine the weirdest science fiction movie of all time.

Jesus is the Son of God and God. He said this of Himself:

He who has seen Me has seen the Father. (Jhn 14:9)

Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. (Jhn 17:11)

I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word, that they may all be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also be one in Us. (Jhn 17:21

Do not dismiss this crucial understanding. Jesus is God. God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all parts of the same person. How that works, I do not understand, but that doesn’t make it not true. All the fullness of God was born in Jesus, though He did not use His power. He only did what He saw the Father do.

Jesus was not just a great man or prophet. Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. (Jhn 10: 17-18) No one else can claim to do that, only God.

Knowing that Jesus is God is comforting, because He knows what we face day to day. He got hungry and tired and annoyed. He enjoyed His friends and played with children. He was very human and very God.

To deny that Jesus is God is to deny God. Don’t be caught on the wrong side of that debate when you stand before Him.
