God Gives Many Gifts, But Jesus Is THE Gift

Paul describes the gifts of the Spirit as (1Cor 12:8-9):

  • word of wisdom
  • word of knowledge
  • faith
  • healing
  • miracles
  • tongues
  • interpretation of tongues

I tend to list the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23) — love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control — as gifts as well, because they are free for us to receive.

God blesses us in our entire life. Everything that we give to Him, He blesses. That’s the goodness of living in His kingdom.

Jesus is the greatest gift of all.
Jesus is the greatest gift of all.

But we can’t let all these wonderful blessings distract us from the One Gift that is greatest of all. Jesus is everything. He is Savior, Lord, Friend, Emmanuel. He is God with Us. His heart of love is so great that allowed Himself to be tortured for us — the Sinless One.

I always ask for a greater revelation of Jesus. I want to know Him more and more. No matter how we live our Christian life, the eternal question will always be, what did you do with the sacrifice that Jesus made for you? How did you honor the Son of God?

Jesus must be central to our faith, to our life, and to our hope. It is His blood that saves us and it will be His arms that embrace us in eternity.

Join Together To Pray | On Earth As It Is In Heaven

On earth as it is in heaven.

On earth as it is in heaven.

Sometimes I get so floored by the Lord’s prayer. On earth as it is in heaven. That is could be even remotely possible is astounding. But that it is God’s will and desire is breathtaking. Really? Just like in heaven, right here?

When Jesus prayed that, it must have shaken the disciples as strongly as it does us, because we are so accustomed to mediocre. We’re so happy when we see positive results in anything, we just don’t begin to expect divine results.

But God will not move without prayer. On earth as it is in heaven is entirely possible, because He said it was. But it won’t happen until we pray it with conviction. Repeating that prayer everyday because you’ve been taught it since childhood is not the same thing as believing every word of it.

Let’s join together and pray for God’s will do be done here, just as it is in heaven. Believe it in your heart. Declare it in your soul. It is the will of God and we are commanded to pray like that. Only when we decide to follow the voice of God in the prayer that He gave us will we see the results that only He can give.

I really want to see what He will do. Join me and pray.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

If You Can Get Excited Before The Answer Comes, You Got It Made

The time to get happy is now!

The time to get happy is now!

When should you rejoice? When should you be thankful? Before you get what you asked for. Sing, o barren, you who have not borne! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married woman, says the Lord. (Isa 54:1)

When the barren rejoice for the children that are not yet born, the the children are sure to come. And that attitude of joy and thankfulness will ensure that the barren will become more fruitful than the woman who already has children.

That is faith. That is trusting God to be who He says He is — a loving Father who sees our needs and loves to bless us. If we put Him above all things, even our greatest love, He promises to bless our heart’s desire. But that’s a big “if”.

God must be your chief joy. He must be your greatest love. If you can’t be honest about that, then don’t blame Him for not doing what you want Him to do. But if you can, then rejoice and sing, because He will do what He says He will do. He is God and cannot lie. His word is truth. So do your happy dance, because the blessing is coming.

Build Up Your Ability To Resist The Enemy And Get More Of God

Resist the enemy and it will make your stronger.

Resist the enemy and it will make your stronger.

You know how practice makes perfect, and using muscles builds muscle? It’s the same way in the kingdom. The more we extend our faith, the stronger our faith gets. You may start out only able to believe for small things, but as you see God respond to that little faith, it’s easier to believe for bigger things.

In the same way, the more we resist the bad thoughts of the enemy, the easier it is to resist them. Once you realize that bad feelings and bad thoughts don’t come from God, you can make up your mind to not receive them. You can literally tell yourself to ignore them. Claim the good things of God and the enemy will have to leave you alone.

You may need to remind yourself to do this somehow. Just remember that anytime you’re feeling bad about something, do a check. Where is it coming from? Is it something you did? Repent if you need to, God forgives. Is it coming from someone else? You don’t have to receive it.

The more you guard your heart, the stronger you’ll get. The more you resist the enemy, the more of God you can claim. It’s like taking enemy territory every time you refuse to be unhappy.

Happiness Is Totally Your Decision | You Don’t Have To Be Miserable

Happiness is a decision.

Happiness is a decision.

Happiness is your decision. Yes, you decide if you will be grumpy or happy. To let your emotions be subject to the wind is to give up control over yourself. That is not only a bad idea, it’s dangerous. If you are not in control, the enemy will happily take over.

Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him. (Ps. 42:11) Have a good talking to yourself. Snap out of it. Your happiness is a heartbeat away. Are you sick of being unhappy? Then decide right now, this second, to stop it.

Tell yourself, “I choose to be happy. I will trust God and bless Him for all that He has done for me.” It may take repeating a few times, but keep at it. You can be happy and you can be happy every day. Put your life in God’s hands so He can help you with the things that are going wrong. If you don’t trust Him, He can’t help.

Happiness isn’t something only rich people have, or lucky people have. Happiness is a decision. If you are unhappy, then it is a choice that you have made. Chose to unmake it.

Are You Faithful To Your Employer | Honoring God At Work

Your faithfulness to your work is honorable to God.

Your faithfulness to your work is honorable to God.

Faithfulness is a big deal to God. Jesus told a story about a nobleman who gave ten servants money to invest before leaving on a trip. When he came back, he rewarded the one who made the most money. Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities. (Luke 19:17)

To me, this says that it wasn’t that much work for the servant to trade well. He was faithful in very little. What is astounding is that being faithful in very little brought a huge reward. That boggles me. But it tells me that God honors those who are faithful in what they are called to.

Faithfulness extends to everything you do, especially at your job. Do you give a hundred percent? Are you surfing the web, or your cell phone, when you should be working? If you are on the clock, your time belongs to your employer. Being faithful to your job is honorable, even when you don’t like it.

Don’t allow a bad experience or the bad attitudes of others to sway to from doing what is right. Your faithfulness is an expression of your commitment to God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. (Col 323)

Your Gentleness Will Be The Touch Of God To Someone Else

Ask God for gentleness.

Ask God for gentleness.

When you think of all the aspects of God, you don’t normally think if gentleness at the top of the list. God is big, and loving, and merciful, but we forget that He is gentle. And He requires gentleness from us as well.

When you think about it, gentleness is not for the faint of heart, especially if it’s cool to be sarcastic. It takes guts to act gently in an environment that’s built on pride. Gentleness is humble. Gentleness takes great care about the feelings of others. It’s very protective.

Let your gentleness be known to all men. (Phil 4:5) If your gentleness is known to all men, you have to be gentle all the time. It should be something that you are known for. If you are a boss, your employees should know that you will never treat them harshly, even in discipline. It means that you can correct and guide without shame or humiliation.

We are supposed to be gentle to each other, all the time. It is preferring other people over ourselves. It’s basic to kingdom principles. If we can’t do that, then we have a long way to go. Ask God to make you gentle. Your gentleness will be the touch of God to someone else’s life.

Patience Will Make You Into A Godly Person, If You’re Patient

Patience will make you godly.

Patience will make you godly.

Imagine your life if you were patient. Not a patient, but someone who can calmly wait in the checkout line or let someone else finish a sentence. Impatience is pretty rude. It means that what ever you are doing is more important than everyone else, and they should know it.

Patience will allow you to listen to people. That is a gift. You know how it feels when you talk to someone who really listens and isn’t waiting for you to finish so they can talk? Patience lets you slow down and see the beauty in people and everything around you. When you are bent on getting your way not matter what, you miss all the good stuff.

Patience is rather key in developing you into a godly person. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. (James 1:4) Whoa! Patience will do that? Yep. But we are not changed into perfection overnight. It takes time. It takes us desiring  and pressing in to be changed. We have to be patient with the progress. If we get frustrated because we don’t see instant results, then we won’t get any.

Patience is yours for the asking. Just be patient about getting it.

Self-Control Will Help You Be The Person You Were Meant To Be

Self-control will change your life.

Self-control will change your life.

When we think about the fruits of the Spirit we want in our lives, we usually think of the obvious — love, joy, and peace. We rarely think that we want, or need, self-control. Lack of self-control can raise its ugly head in every area of our life. We can lose our temper, spend more than we should, or eat ourselves into disease.

Lack of self-control will manifest through pain, money, and frustration. Now here’s the creepy part. If you are not in control, who is? God does not manifest Himself through pain, poverty and frustration, but the enemy does. Your lack of self-control is handing over the reigns of your life to the enemy, and he will gladly take them.

How can you live happily in the kingdom if you claim to love God but fail to show discipline in your life — if you are constantly overdrawn, suffer health issues do to overeating, or yell at people in traffic?

Self-control will change your life. It will help you balance what is good and what is over the line. The Holy Spirit will lead you in this if you ask Him to. Be persistent. It takes time to change, but if you really want it, you can have it. And everyone around you will be glad you did.

All The Fruits Of The Spirit Are Yours, If You Really Want Them

All the fruits of the Spirit are your if you really want them.

All the fruits of the Spirit are your if you really want them.

For some reason, I was always a little confused by the fruits of the Spirit: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control. (Gal 5:22-23) I’m not sure why, but I always assumed that there was one “fruit” that was mine, that I was defined by. I was supposed to know which one it was and live up to it. Or I had to pick one that I wanted in my life.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The fruits of the Spirit are all aspects of God. And when we have the Holy Spirit in our lives, we have all of Him. All those fruits are in us. But they are probably not all active, so to speak.

Each one of those fruits is yours for the asking, but it’s not as simple as it sounds. Like all things in the kingdom, we have to “earnestly desire” the things we ask from God. It can’t be casual. I learned this from personal experience.

I asked God over and over for one aspect of Himself. I thought I would feel a download from heaven and be changed when I asked, but it didn’t happen like that. It came over time. As I continued to ask, He continued to change. I can see now how gradual it was.

Press into those aspects of His Spirit that you need. Keep at it, and you over time, you will see a difference.
