Let’s Go After The Sweeter Fruit

The fruit of the Spirit is free to us.

The fruits of the Spirit have more to offer.

When you begin to understand how much God loves you, it’s easy and natural to love Him back like you never have before. You develop a deep and passionate desire to know more about Him. He’s God. He’s so much more than we can even imagine. And the wonderful thing is, the more we want, the more there is to know.

There is always more to have in the kingdom, even the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Now imagine a fruit tree. Have you ever noticed that the fruit at the top is always riper than the fruit lower down? Those are the ones the birds go after because they’re the juiciest. They’re the ones you have to climb up for.

Salvation is free to everyone who received Jesus as Lord, but beyond that, what we get from the kingdom depends on how much we want. Some servants returned profits from the talents their master left them and some buried them. (Mat 25:15)

I think there is more to all the gifts that we’ve been given if we press in. I want to know what is at the top of the tree. I want to climb up higher and explore the sweeter fruits. Who’s with me?

The Seriousness Of Being Child-like

You must have child-like faith.

You can only enter the kingdom as a little child.

Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it. (Mk 10:15) That is a sobering statement. What’s the difference between an older child and a little child?

An older child will have learned some things from adults, like manipulation and self-defense. If I do this or work hard enough, Daddy will love me. Or entitlement. I’ve done this, I’ve believed that, so I deserve this.

A little child still carries innocent trust in Papa. He is all her world and the source of good things. She is delighted by simple blessing and longs to be held and loved. His eyes are the focus of her attention and she is expressive in her delight.

We need to seriously examine our hearts and check to see where we measure on the child meter. If we cannot enter the kingdom of God, then we have lost everything. We are responsible for our own admittance to the kingdom.

Are you full of pride, anger, doubt, fear, worry, jealousy? God does not expect perfection, but if He is convicting you in some area of your life, then He means that it should be removed. Confess your sin and receive His blessing. Enter into the kingdom filled with wonder and trust in you Papa.

Faith Is Not Trying To Help God

Faith is believing in what you can't see.

Trust in the One who loves you most.

So many times, our “faith” is believing that we can see what God will do. There’s an answer to a problem that we can envision, we just need a little help from heaven to make it happen. The truth is, God doesn’t need our strategy, He needs us to trust Him.

We are blind to His resources. We have no idea the answers that He can send our way. So instead of trusting Him when we don’t get what we thought we needed, we are crushed and turn away in disappointment, perhaps missing the answer that He provided that would have been far better than what we asked for.

Faith is believing in what you can’t see. Yes, it’s really hard. It comes from a relationship with the Father that is so close and personal that you never doubt that He will take care of you. A thousand will fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. (Ps 91:7) Can you stand in faith when you see that happening? When everything around you is falling apart? How amazingly blessed you will be if you can be strong and hold on to what you know to be true. Keep your eyes on the One who loves you most and all will be well.

Thankfulness Is A Choice

We are thankful because we've been redeemed.

Choose to be thankful.

Thankfulness is more than a courtesy, it’s an attitude. It’s understanding that all good things come from God, regardless of where we see the source. Thankfulness walks hand in hand with humility. If you don’t have the humility to see that you are blessed, then you can’t be thankful.

Choose to be thankful when things go bad. Make the decision to thank the waitress for bringing the food when it’s taking too long. Make the choice to see the good and not the bad. Be thankful when you’re grumpy and you lift your own spirit.

We enter God’s gates with thankfulness because He is good. When you stop and literally count your blessings, you can’t help but be full of gratitude. Spread that around. Be thankful for each kindness you receive. Be thankful when you pray. But in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let our requests be made known to God. (Ph 4:6)

Thankfulness comes from understanding the great gift of salvation that we’ve been given. It is the humility of knowing that we don’t deserve it. We choose to be thankful because we know that we are saved and covered in grace. It’s a choice that defines us as the Redeemed.

The Holy Spirit Is Your Anointing

The Holy Spirit is your anointing.

You are anointed with the presence of God.

If you are a believer, filled with the Holy Spirit, then you have His anointing. It is His presence in you, reminiscent of the oil poured over the priests that dripped down their beards and garments. This anointing comes loaded with everything that you need to be called of God.

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. (1Jn 2:20)

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you. (1Jn 2:27)

The Holy Spirit knows everything, so when He is present in your life, you have access to a complete knowledge base. You won’t automatically know it all, but you can turn to Him any time you need to.

It is an amazing aspect of our relationship with God, that He would put all knowledge at our disposal. There is only one condition to accessing it. We have to go to Him. It is from relationship that we are taught the things we need to know. In our times spent with Him in love and enjoyment, He equips us and gives us ideas and dreams.

Ask Him for answers to the things you need to know. Spend time with Him in prayer and meditation. Listen with your heart and look to see if He won’t be a God of all resourcefulness.

Salvation Is Not About Avoiding Hell

Salvation is living in grace and power.

Salvation is not about avoiding hell.

It may seem counter-intuitive, but salvation is not about avoiding hell. For most of my life, that’s what I thought it was. I was grateful that I was saved so I wouldn’t go to hell. My life was all about looking forward to heaven, and I had no clear understanding of what that really meant.

And then I came to understand that salvation is really about knowing God and embracing the promise of “on earth as it is in heaven”. This was a radical revelation to me. That I could know God intimately now and live in blessing instead of enduring to the end was a dynamic transformation in my faith. Embracing God with all my heart, soul, and mind opened new doors to revelation.

If your faith is all about fire insurance, then you have no power at all. How will you heal the sick, cast out demons, and raise the dead? How will you speak to the mountain and make it be removed if all you have is hope that you won’t go to hell?

To live as God has promised requires that you turn your heart away from what you fear to delight in who He is. Salvation is living in blessing and power today.

Lukewarm Faith Makes Jesus Sick

Jesus loves passionate faith.

Complacent faith is faithless.

Complacency is deadly. It doesn’t feel deadly. It feels like everything is okay. Like everything’s going along just fine. No one is rocking the boat and everyone is comfortable. But Jesus has some very disturbing words about being complacent:

I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish that you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. (Rev 3:15-16)

Kind of makes you understand why Jesus loved James and John, Sons of Thunder, and Peter as disciples. He likes passion. That doesn’t mean that if we are not all Type A personalities that we’re in big trouble. But it does mean that having faith with no passion is dangerous.

Lukewarm faith feels like taking God for granted. You know He’s there, but you can’t quite fit Him into your schedule. The Laodiceans were in trouble because they were rich and didn’t feel the need to rely on God for anything. They believed with their mouth, not their heart.

Check out your passion meter. How much does your salvation mean to you? Do you really realize what you have? He who has an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says.

God Loves Through Us When We Can’t

Can you love someone without being loved back? It’s hard to do. Our humanity requires people to earn their love. It’s amazing to realize the heart of God. Even when people outright rail against Him, He still loves with a passion we’ll never understand.

The love of God covers our pain.

Loving others who won’t love back.

And we’re supposed to love like that. When we are hurt, we’re to turn the other cheek. Not in defiance, but in love. When we’ve been snubbed, ignored, or rebuked, we need to love back. It’s absolutely contrary to our nature, but it is what God expects from us.

There is only one way to love like that. We have to have the Holy Spirit in us to give us His love. Our human love will only go so far, then our hurt takes over. Loving through God will not keep us from getting hurt, but it will rise up above the pain.

Give your hurts to Jesus. Ask Him to help you love where you cannot on your own. You will be the presence of God to someone who desperately needs it, even though they will not admit it. Ask God for wisdom to know how to love in the most effective way. Be Jesus to someone who needs to see Him.

We Don’t Get To Choose What Is Truth

We don't get to chose what is truth.

The word of God is truth that we must believe.

I am amazed that people who profess to be believers don’t actually believe the Bible. They will disagree with that statement. They will say they do believe, just not all of it. Some things they just don’t believe to be true. Some things they say they believe, but their lives say differently.

The sky is blue. Fire is hot. Ice is cold. Which of those would you decide to believe as fact and which would you say is not? Are any of those statements true for some people, but not for everyone?  How can you say the same for the Bible? We don’t get to pick and chose what we want to believe to be truth. If it is in the Word, then it is truth and we are responsible for answering to it.

Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. (Ps 119:89) All of heaven knows that the word of the Lord is true. Will you stand before Him and disagree? If you have issues with what the Bible says, then you have issues that need to be cleared up. False teaching, prejudice, and pride can skew what is true. Do not be led by lies if your faith is not founded on what God has said.

Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep your righteous judgement. (Ps 119:105-106)

Desiring To Pray Like Jesus Prayed

We can pray like Jesus prayed.

How amazing to pray like Jesus prayed.

What do you think it was like when Jesus went off by himself at night to pray? He was separated from His Father in heaven, so those times must have been sweet hours of reunion. I wonder if the mount of transfiguration was a regular occurrence for Him. Did people He knew from heaven come to Him often?

It really makes me wonder what our prayer time could really be like. I wonder if what Jesus experienced shouldn’t be something we all do. What was it that Jesus did to commune with God like that? He did not come to earth as the Son of God, He came as the Son of Man, setting aside His own authority. That means we can do what He did.

Imagine going to God in prayer and seeing all of heaven open up to you. Imagine being so filled with the presence of God that your face shines like Moses’ when He came off the mountain. You would change the atmosphere in the room when you carry that presence.

I think we short change ourselves by not going after what Jesus showed us to do. There is so much more to our relationship with God if we spend our hearts on Him. So much more.
