Can you remember your first love in Christ? Did it fill you with joy and giddy emotion? New love makes us almost blind to anything else. The object of our love fills our hearts and mind. But then it cools, and over time it can grow cold.
We can say it hasn’t happened, but if we compare where we are today with what it was in the beginning, there’s probably a bit difference. Maybe there have been disappointments. Maybe we got sidetracked into believing something that wasn’t true.
Jesus said to repent and do the first works. (Rev 2:5) What were those first works? Prayer? Praise? Work that you did for others? Backup and start over. Repent for growing cold and pick up where Jesus was Lord in your life. That means He is more important to you than anything.
Go back and read the gospels and remind yourself of who He is. Be filled with His wisdom and understanding. Allow your heart to sing again. It’s dangerous to confess salvation without love.
Over time, as you reunite with your love for Him and continue in it, it will deepen and mature. You begin to understand more of His ways and His blessing. Find your love in Jesus and never, never let it go.
