How Can I Hear From God? Part 6

God Speaks Through Our Dreams

Can God talk to me in my sleep? Most definitely. Dreams are a big way of communicating to you and there are lots of examples in the Bible of that. They may feel real, like your not sleeping at all. Sometimes those message dreams wake us up at night. Keep a journal by your bed and take the time to write them down before you go back to sleep. Same thing when you wake up in the morning, write down a dream that you remember that feels like a message. They don’t stay in our memory for very long. Look at everything in the dream for meaning—sound, color, numbers, order of things. Images can have special significance and there are good books to look up dream interpretation. Of course, we can get strange dreams because the pizza we ate or stress, so filter out what doesn’t feel like God. Next, making sense of it.

God Speaks Through Numbers And Colors

Remember that God is always talking to you. He is always trying to communicate how much He loves you. He will use anything to get your attention. Sometimes it’s a situation that opens up that you know hand to be His hand. It probably was. Numbers have significance in the Bible. If a number gets your attention for some reason, maybe it keeps popping up where ever you go, try to find out what it means. Colors have meaning. Blue is the color of revelation, God is definitely trying to get your attention. White-purity, red-redemption, green-new life, etc. Don’t go overboard and start seeing every single thing as a sign from God, but keep your eyes open, it could be. Next, one more way God talks to you.

God Speaks Through Our Imagination

We know that God talks to us through our thoughts, but He also uses our imagination. Think of an object that’s in a different room from where you are. You can see it in your head. You don’t have to have your eyes closed to get that picture, but it works that way too. Those pictures in your mind are a very common way for God to speak to you. While you are in prayer, you might see a picture of something you weren’t previously thinking about. Stop and consider it, there may be a message there. Think about what that picture actually means. It could be about you or someone else. Maybe He wants to use you to minister to someone. Maybe He wants to show you a gift or blessing He wants to give to you. It could be anything, so pay attention. Next, some random ways God uses to talk to you.

How Can I Hear From God? Part 3

God Speaks Through Our Thoughts

God made you so He’s very aware of how you think and feel. He speaks through your own consciousness more than you realize. Thoughts can come to you from the enemy, yourself, or God. It’s good to recognize which is which. In fact, it’s very good to know that there are bad thoughts that don’t belong to you at all. You can just ignore them. But God gives you awesome thoughts. They may be ideas for new things, insight and revelation about situations or people, or a communication telling you how important you are to Him. God’s thoughts won’t scare you or make you feel bad about yourself. He’s plan is to always make you better and feel safe. And the cool thing is, you can have a complete conversation with Him and no one can hear it. He understands privacy. Coming up, more ways He talks to you.

God can talk through cirumstances

God has many ways of talking to us

What are other ways that God talks to us? Through other people. And that can be anybody, not just other Christians or people you think have the ear of God. Any conversation can trigger your spirit to pay attention. A random comment might confirm something that you heard before.

Pay attention if different people happen to say the same things to you. You might hear from God through something you heard on TV, an email, or a billboard. God has access to everything and He’s pretty creative about using it. It’s easy to pass off His communication as coincidence, so think before you ignore it. Change your perspective from He doesn’t talk to me to He’s always talking to me. Next post, some more ways He communicates.

How Can I Hear From God? Part 1

God loves to talk to us.

Yes, God talks to us.

I don’t know why I was surprised to learn that God wants to talk to me. But when you stop and think about it, He set up a plan for  us to connect with Him through Jesus’ death on the cross. It was a huge move on His part, just to let us go directly to Him. If He was willing to do all that, why wouldn’t He want to talk to me now, today. It makes sense.

So, exactly how is He talking to me? Well, it turns out that He has all kinds of languages, and not just the kind that we speak. He will use any form of communication that we have—whatever we see, hear, feel, or think. He uses scripture a lot because He wrote it. Those verses that jump off the page? That’s Him talking. Keep a journal and write them down and date them. Go back and read them and see what He’s telling you. Next post, more ways God talks to you.

Jesus Really is Wonderful

His name is Wonderful

Jesus is called Wonderful, and He is wonderful

Isaiah 9:6 calls Jesus Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. When people read that out loud, I always hear Wonderful Counselor, like He’s a really good counselor. But reading it with the comma is more fun. His name is Wonderful. Dear Wonderful, thank you for a great day. Be with me, Wonderful, I need some amazement in my life. It’s just a great name. And He would have the best business card:

Wonderful, Fun Technician

Heaven

Contact: just pray

And it would have three-dimensional  fireworks that shoot off of it. And if you carried that card with you everywhere, your life would be…wonderful. He’s just good at that. I’m so glad my God’s name is Wonderful. He’s the best.

Not only is Jesus Wonderful, He’s the Lamb of God: The Lamb of God is Adorable

Holding on to Hope

Dear God,

Discipline is a good thing. When I feel down, I know to still rejoice. When I am sad or depressed, I can still be thankful. Regardless of  how I feel, I know you are true. I know that your promises are the wonder of the universe. How could I ever doubt that? So I am always grateful, even when the waiting brings sadness. Smiling through tears, as my old voice teacher used to say. Yes, I am grateful. There is no hope without you. In you, there is more than hope, there is joy today. There is being sheltered under your wings. There will be no need for that in heaven. Today we need your shelter, your grace, and so much more. Draw me into the more. We know so little. Show me a glimpse of  the more. I have no idea what’s behind the curtain, but I will press in regardless. You are my life, my breath, my hope. Thank you for help when I need it. Help that will train me to be better at the things I need to do. I just want more of you. I want to hide in you and only come out when all the world is new and safe. Ok, I’ll be who you want me to be because I can trust in you like no other. Thank you for everything. Thank you for everything you do for me, for loving me completely.

The Joy Of God Rises Up!

the joy of the Lord

Let the joy of the Lord out!

Let the joy of the Lord rise among us. Lord, this is your plan for life. It’s always been – to have a people who love and trust in you, so your joy can rise. It’s a great plan. I like it. Let your joy rise in me. Rise in my house, my city, my nation. There is healing in your joy.

There is wisdom and grace. There is life. Your joy is a dimension we have not yet discovered in ourselves. It’s in us, in our spirits. You put it there when you breathed life into Adam. It lies waiting for the sound of Your voice to rise up. Deep calls unto deep. Let the joy rise.

Teach my spirit to enjoy the joy you’ve given me. Let me give myself to it and give it freedom in my life. How can I respond to life in arrogance if your joy sings in my soul? No matter what happens, no matter what tragedy, let your joy always be my guide. I will follow your joy and sing with you and you will guard my heart and my thoughts.

Be our God and rise among us. We need you. Let joy flow like falling drops of water in the fountain of life. I love your joy. It brings clarity and revelation when we embrace it. You said make a joyful noise all the earth. I want to hear that. I want to hear the earth respond to you in joy. I can’t imagine the sound of that. I”m sure it wouldn’t sound as heavenly as we think it would. I think it would sound like joyful noise. Rise up in me. I’ll make some noise.

Letter To My God

God has a plan for each of us

God has a plan and is waiting to help

Dear God,

I know I just talked to you, but I need to come back again. God, there’s so much to cringe about in the world- floods, joblessness, hopelessness. People are trying to find answers when they don’t really know what the questions are. We need help. We need to know that our lives count, that we matter, just as much as other people who seem to have it all. What will happen when the money runs out? Who will take care of us? How do we deal with cancer and diabetes? How do we deal with loneliness and isolation?

It’s a lot to think about. It can look scary. Really scary. But that’s why I wanted to talk to you. I know you’ve got a plan. For all the issues, all the problems, you have a plan. You have a way to take away all the fear. You can restore what’s been lost and build what’s been torn down. You can make the new better than the old.

The thing is, we’re not good at listening to you. We like to think that we don’t need you. We want to be in control, despite the mess we live in. Silly isn’t it! Help us to see that when we act like stubborn children who won’t let mom help, we have to live with our own decisions. Help us to see that you are close, that all you’re waiting for is for us to ask. So easy. So simple.

I like that you have a plan. Thanks for that. I know that your plan is way better than mine. So much better than mine. Help us, as a community, as a country, to see that you know how to bring food to the table and health to our bodies. You are so much bigger than the issues that hurt us and worry us. I give it all to you. I know I still have responsibilities, but I will listen to you and do what you say. I’ve been pretty happy so far.
