The Kingdom Of God Requires Active Participation

Faith builds strong foundationsThe kingdom of God requires active participation. You can’t sit and listen and assume that you don’t have to do anything as long as you believe. Whatever you hear and learn, you are required to act on.

Jesus said that whoever hears His word and acts on it is like the man who built his house on solid rock. The man who heard but did nothing built his house on sand. When the storm came, great was the ruin of the house. (Luke 6:47-49)

But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? (Luke 6:46) There is a reason why we have to act on what we learn. It pulls us out of complaisant apathy to faith. Will God do what He said He would? Once we act on our faith, God will move. He will do nothing if we sit on our hands and do nothing.

Acting out of faith builds our foundation because we begin to believe for greater and greater things. If you have never walked in real faith, it’s time to get started. Jesus said very clearly that the ruin of the house built on sand was great. Don’t let that be you.

Loving Difficult People Is Hard To Do, But Still Doable

Loving difficult peopleLoving difficult people is hard to do. We want to love nice people, people we like and who love us back. But Jesus said, For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? (Mat 5:46) The challenge is to love, really love people who you don’t even like.

People you don’t like probably don’t like you either, and when you respond in love, it’s going to startle them. They have to ask themselves why you would do that. It’s a way to show the grace of God to them and it may be the only way they’ll see it.

But it’s still hard to do. Chances are, you can’t do it in your own power. You need the Holy Spirit to love through you. Then you have all of heaven to bless with. That’s more than enough love for that difficult person.

But that power of love doesn’t just turn off and on like a faucet. It has to be cultivated in you. You have to allow the Holy Spirit to transform you so what you express is genuine. That takes some humility to be changed. It takes a desire to be changed, and it takes time. Lay your heart open to God and let Him make you into someone He can love through, even to difficult people.

So Many Reasons Why We Need The Holy Spirit

Why we need the Holy Spirit

Why we need the Holy Spirit

There are so many reasons why we need the Holy Spirit, but I recently found a great one. Jesus had so many things to teach the disciples that He just couldn’t. I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. (John 16:12) They didn’t have the maturity of faith to understand the things of heaven that Jesus wanted to tell them.

Then Jesus told them, However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth. (John 16:13) The Holy Spirit is here for us to bring us healing, joy, and salvation, and also to continue the education that Jesus started.

He will guide us into truth. There are deep things, hidden things that only He can teach. And we don’t have to be seminary graduates to learn it either. Anyone with a hungry heart can be led of God. But it does take a quiet heart to hear Him. It takes patience to sit with Him and absorb His peace. A heart full of fear, constant activity, frustration, or anger won’t be able to hear Him above the noise.

Start first with clearing the noise. Ask Him to strip away anything that distracts you from His voice. It may take time. It may take a long time. But little by little, you’ll hear Him better and better. And you’ll be amazed at what that sounds like.

God’s Sanctuary Is Portable, Because It’s In You

Sanctuary is within you.

Sanctuary is within you.

There is something absolutely beautiful about our sanctuary in God. It is a place where God dwells and a place of safety for us. In the old days, the sanctuary was a physical location, but after we receive salvation through Christ, it is our heart. When God lives in us, we become His sanctuary and He becomes our place of safety.

It sounds strange, that our hearts should be a place of safety. But God is in us and He promises to be our shield and protection. In Him there is peace. In Him we can fear not. He said to give no thought to what we eat or drink or wear. He knows all about that and has a plan. We’re responsible to trust Him so He can work it out.

Find that place of sanctuary. Find Him in your heart and feel His peace and His smile. He loves you so much and waits patiently for you to come hang out with Him. And the more you do, the stronger your connection with Him will grow. You’ll feel greater peace and trust Him even more.

Sanctuary is with you wherever you go. You are just a heartbeat away from safety, peace, and help. And there’s more there as well: wisdom, love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, self-control. Everything you need is right there waiting. Go find it.

I Used To Be Scared Of Communion

Communion is a joyWhen I was young, communion used to scare me. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. (I Cor 11:27) I used to stress about confessing my sins so I would be worthy to take communion. I don’t know what I expected would happen if I wasn’t worthy, but I didn’t want to find out.

As I got older, I began to associate communion with the crucifixion. Any description of the torture of being crucified made me ill. I took communion with a heart full of guilt and pain that Jesus had to suffer that for me.

But today, I take communion with joy. I associate it with Christmas and Easter. It is the reminder of God’s great plan to unite me with Him for eternity. I know about the suffering, but I choose to not dwell on it. The bread and the juice (in my church it’s juice) are elements of salvation and life. It makes me happy because I know that my life in Christ is secure and I can actually have a relationship with God because of His sacrifice. It was not a sacrifice in vain. Because of it, I am reborn and full of destiny. Communion is an act of celebration and gratitude.

Spiritual Growth Comes When You Meditate On The Word of God

spiritual growth comes when you meditate on the word

Meditate on the word.

There is only so much you can learn about God from going to church and listening to other people. Don’t get me wrong, you can learn a lot. You can learn the basics that you need to develop spiritual growth. But to really grow in the Lord, you have to hear Him yourself. You have to learn to meditate on His word.

We live in such a fast-paced world now. Everything has to be done on the run, while we’re driving, or scheduled into our day. God doesn’t live by that clock. In fact, He can be pretty inconvenient. He requires our full attention, regardless of what we think has to be done. The mystery is that when we slow down and give Him our time, our meditation, He makes all the other stuff work out.

Don’t think you can’t meditate on His word because you don’t understand it. Ask Him for help. Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works. (Ps 119:27) The Holy Spirit is our teacher. Quiet your heart. Think about the word and ask Him to explain it to you. He said He would make us understand, and He will.

Slow down and meditate. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field in the evening; and he lifted his eyes and looked, and there, the camels were coming. (Gen 24:63) And Rebekah came to him.

What Is “The Prophetic” All About?

The prophetic is God speaking to us.

The prophetic is God speaking to us.

“The prophetic” is terminology used in the church to talk about the active gift of prophecy. When someone says, “I don’t believe in ‘the prophetic'”, they mean that they don’t believe that the prophetic gift is for use today. They are wrong.

All the gifts of the Spirit are alive and well, thank you very much. And the prophetic gift is as important today as it was when the Holy Spirit released Himself to us. The prophetic gift is all about hearing God. It may be communicated in an idea, a picture, colors, a feeling, or a physical sensation. Usually, the person receiving the prophetic word will understand the message because it will usually confirm what that person already knows.

The prophetic gift is wonderful to practice and receive. Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. (1Cor 14:1) Why? Because God is so encouraging. Even when we need to be reprimanded, He is kind. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. (1Cor 14:3)

We all want to hear from God and know what He wants to do in our lives. Receiving a prophetic word is amazingly comforting, and it draws the giver and receiver together in a spiritual bond like nothing else. Pursue the prophetic and let God speak to you. You will love it.

Is Speaking In Tongues Really Necessary?

Speaking in tongues is necessaryIs speaking in tongues really necessary? Yes it is. It is one way that God communicates with us and it’s not our job to judge how He chooses to do that. It is a way for our spirit to speak directly to God without any affectations. It is how to pray for the things we don’t even know what to ask for.

Paul said, I wish you all spoke with tongues. (ICor 14:5) He meant it. It is an aspect of the Spirit that builds growth and maturity in us. It is a way to pray against the enemy in ways we wouldn’t otherwise know how to do. I like to think of it as giving angels military strategy to fight for us.

If speaking in tongues has been an issue for you, then ask yourself why. Why would you neglect anything that God provided for your health, safety, and growth? Ask Him for it. Be honest and spend time with Him. Ask other people to pray with you. Just be open in your spirit and not doubtful. Don’t expect to understand the words that you speak, it will be a different language, but you can pray for an interpretation.

I agree with Paul, I wish you all spoke in tongues. It’s a powerful, amazing way to pray.

Does God Have To Direct Every Decision That You Make?

God will bless your decisions, so go for it.

God will bless your decisions, so go for it.

Do you require God to tell you every decision you need to make? I’m guessing that you probably don’t get a lot of answsers. I don’t believe that God wants to direct every decision that you make. I think He wants us to be mature believers able to know our own hearts. I believe that we live with a green light unless He decides to make it red.

Since we have the Holy Spirit living in us, we are already influenced by His heart. He gives us ideas and dreams and desires, so He likes it when we want to go after them. Achieving those goals can go a dozen different ways. There’s not a perfect way. God can bless whatever we set out to do. If we are truly going in the wrong direction, He will let us know. We may get counsel or that door just won’t open.

I think there have been far too many dreams that never materialized because people waited for a sign. Instead, we should pursue those dreams and trust God to direct us as we go. Walk in maturity and faith, don’t wait to be handheld at every step. You already have a green light.

God Is Always Good, Even After Tragedy Happens

God is always good.

God is always good.

God is good. Seriously. He’s really, really good. Bad things happen in the world, and everyone assumes that God is punishing someone or allowing tragedy to happen. It’s an inaccurate assumption, because Jesus gave us all His authority to carry on His gospel. If bad things are happening, it’s because we’ve been lax in using His authority.

God is always good. When tragedy happens, it’s God who heals, saves and delivers. It’s God who sends grace where it’s needed when we call. He’s not directing from heaven so much as waiting to respond to our prayers. We need to be praying for His presence and goodness to be released in the world, otherwise, the bad things will continue to happen.

It’s sad and frustrating when God gets blamed for tragedy, but forgotten otherwise. He is powerful and able to be all that we need Him to be, if we would only turn to Him in faith. Without His protection, yes, tragedy happens, but that is not His plan. His plan is to be our shield and joy, but we have to ask. We miss so much by not asking.

Imagine a world where we all believed His word. Tragedy would be a thing of the past and we’d really see how good God really is.
