You’ll Never Love Like Jesus Without Humility

Love requires humilityLove is the essential heart attitude of the kingdom, and you can’t love without humility. Love is not puffed up, does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity. (1Cor 13:4) Love makes you take a backseat to the needs and feelings of others.

Humility guards your heart. It keeps arrogance out and makes you gentle. Good deeds done without humility become bragging grounds. We feel justified in telling people how we prayed for someone or helped them. Humility allows us to do good in secret. When we feel free to talk about our good works, our focus is no longer in love for others, but making us feel better about ourselves.

In a society where we are judged by our cars, our houses, our income, humility is a hard lesson. We are so concerned about what other people will think. The fear of man becomes stronger than the love of God. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. (I John 4:18)

I have to believe that most of the church has not been made perfect in love just based on the number of failed marriages, church splits, and issues that Christians carry that are just like those who do not claim to know God at all.

We are not called to live like other people. We are called to live like Jesus. Our heart must beat with His. Yes, He will bless us with the desires of our heart, but only after we align our hearts with His. Humility will keep us in right attitudes. It comes straight from God Himself, and since He puts His Spirit in us when we come to know Him, we have everything we need to live like Jesus. But we have to want to be transformed. We have to want to be like Him and asked to be changed. We have to see our need and our selfish ways so He can change us. If the world sees humility as weakness, so be it. It is powerful in the kingdom.

Your Identity In Christ Is Authority In Love

Authority puts demands on our love.

Authority puts demands on our love.

Your identity in Christ is who you are, not who you will be in heaven. When Jesus said, the kingdom of God is near you, He meant here and now. If we lived in the understanding of our identity, we’d be a wholly different church.

Imagine the prince of a kingdom living his life. Would anyone question his commands? Would anyone ask, Who do you think you are? No, the prince’s father is the king. There would be hell to pay for abusing or disrespecting the prince. The prince has perfect confidence that what he says will be backed up by the authority of his father.

But we are not arrogant sons and daughters of the King. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. We are sons and daughters of the King with all His authority, but with all His love as well.

God’s authority is kind and gentle. His motivation is love, and if we are to look and act like Him, then we have to let go of old perceptions of what it means to be a Christian. Love the Lord God with all your heart, and love others as much as you love yourself. We have to start doing that.

When we walk in our identity as heirs to the throne with true humility and love, Jesus will be irresistible to a world in need.

If You Dread The Day Ahead, Find Your Love

Find your love.If you wake up in the morning dreading the day ahead, find your love. When we are born again, we take on the mind of Christ, and He loves without measure. We’re to love God above all things, and we’re to love each other with the same level as we selfishly love ourselves. As a church, we’re not good at that. We really haven’t been taught to love people. We say that we do, but we haven’t been taught to live it.

If you love with the love that God put in you, you’ll see people through the eyes of God. He loves us all immensely. He doesn’t want anyone to be lost, regardless of how crude or horrible they act. The only reason they act that way is because they don’t understand how much God loves them. It’s our job to show them.

Waking up in the morning with a heart of love allows you to face every situation with your antennae out to see what God wants to do. It makes the day a joy, even if it’s exactly the same boring job that you faced yesterday. Show kindness, patience, and honesty. Let the joy and love of God shine through you. Your life should resonate with the Spirit of God.

The Bible says to pursue love. Go after it and let God change you from the inside. Face your day with joy and watch what God does with it.

If People Can’t Tell That You Are A Christian, Then There Has Been No Transformation

Transformation takes time.

Transformation takes time.

When you became a Christian, did you change dramatically? You should have. The difference in you should have made everyone you know stop and ask you what happened? Maybe you were raised in the church without a big conversion. Is your life dramatically different from your friends outside the church? And by that, I don’t just mean that you don’t get drunk or do drugs. I mean, can they see by your life that Jesus shines in you?

If we carry around all our fear, frustration, and anger just like everyone else, then the gospel has not changed us. There has been no conversion.  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2Cor 5:17) If the old things have not passed away, then there is no new creation.

Going to church does not make you a Christian. Following rules about how you’re supposed to live does not make you a Christian. Jesus said to follow Him, to do what He did. Are you living like Jesus? Can you say that love motivates your entire life? That you would rather see other people happy above your own needs?

The real gospel requires everything we’ve got. It’s inconvenient. It costs us. If people outside the church can’t see how much we love and can’t see our humility, then there is something wrong. It’s time to go back to God and repent. It’s time to ask God to make us look like Him and mean it. Be real. Be real with God and you’ll find out just how amazing His is. Don’t be left standing on the outside, dive in. It’s what He died for.

God Did Not Give You Cancer

Learn to love God with everything in you.God did not give you cancer — or MS, or a broken leg, or a failed marriage, or [insert your life problem here]. God does not give us cancer to make better people out of us, or to see what we’re made of. If your natural father did that, he’d be thrown into prison.

If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your  heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! (Luke 11:11-13)

If your natural Father wouldn’t give you cancer, it doesn’t make sense that God would. In fact, God promises to protect us.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalms 91:1)

It’s a promise, but it is contingent on the second verse: I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” (Psalms 91:2) Your trust in God has to be more than claiming to be a Christian. You have to put your entire life in His hands. You have to love with Him with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind. You have to hear His voice and be in relationship with Him.

Having head knowledge of God without a heart relationship is not what will protect you. Jesus said, My sheep hear my voice. (John 10:27) Learn to hear His voice in your heart. Learn who He is. Wrap your head around how much He loves you. Learn to love Him back with every fiber of your being.

When you live in a love relationship with God, you are protected under the shadow of His wings. Will bad things happen to you? Probably, we still live in this world, but the power of God in your life when you have His protection is an entirely different dimension than claiming to know Him when you don’t.

Stop blaming God. He loves your wildly and passionately. He’s waiting for you to really trust Him. He’s waiting to be your miracle. Decide if you really do love Him with all that you have and square up with Him. It’s time to really live in the kingdom.

It’s Time To Decide What You Really Believe

What do you really believe? If you are a Christian, why do you live in fear, stress, anger? It’s a difficult question, because it makes you look inside where you thought it was all ok. But if you live in fear, stress, or anger, it’s not ok. Something is really wrong. If you live like that, you are no different from the person who does not claim to know Jesus. But you do claim to know Jesus, so why the stress?

The answer is because you don’t believe what you say you believe. Jesus said to fear not. He said to throw our burdens on Him. He said to be filled with His Spirit and live in joy. When we don’t do that, we suffer the consequences and it keeps us up at night.

Go back and read the Bible. Read how it says you should live and ask yourself if you are doing that. Repent and ask God to forgive you for not trusting Him and start all over. You can’t call yourself a Christian if you don’t obey Him. You are not called to pray a prayer of salvation. You are called to live a lifestyle of faith. Read it.  Decide for yourself if you really trust Him. This is your wake up call. It’s time to be who you are meant to be.

God Cannot Change You Unless You Want More

Allow God to change you.God has more for you. Some of you are thinking, yes I know, in heaven. That’s not what I mean. There is more now, but you have to want it. Do you want more of God? Do you want to feel the rush of angel wings in the night? Do you want to smell the fragrances of heaven? Do you want to be made into the person that God sees?

We can be content to stay in our little boxes, or we can allow God to change us, and by changing us be drawn closer to Him. It’s an exhilarating prospect, but beware. You cannot be changed without changing. Your life cannot stay the same. Your choices cannot stay the same. Change is usually unpleasant. We usually avoid it.

But if you knew that you could experience the presence of God in a profound way, would you accept any change that God needed to do in you? Do you want it? Then ask, and be prepared. Be willing to let Him uproot anything that does not honor Him in your life. It will no doubt be painful. Do it. Let go of self-esteem. Let go of pride. Let go of personal ego. Even your dreams and desires. Give them all to Him. You won’t lose as much as you think you will.

The trade-off to letting go is getting more of God. The selfish part of us doesn’t want to let go of the little world we built, but when we experience the throne room, nothing else compares. Let Him fill you with His humility so you can enjoy everything He has for you. He’s not a mean Father to take away what you love. What He gives is even  better. We’ve just believed the lie that we have to guard our small treasures because there is no more. God is abundant with blessing, but you have to come with empty hands.

Not everyone is willing to go higher because of the cost. Don’t let them affect your desire for more. Be brave. This is your journey. The change begins when you ask for it.

Waiting For Answered Prayer

Just believeYou know that God answers prayer. What does He say? If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. (John 14:14) Of course, you have to be in relationship with Him. You have to know you hear His voice — My sheep hear my voice. (John 10:27) But what if you are hearing Him and it seems like your prayers aren’t being answered?

First of all, know that everyone will go through that. It’s wrong to assume that God answers prayers for everyone else but you. We all go through dry spells. It’s what you do during those times that will affect if and when your prayers are answered.

You have to keep believing. You have to remember how much God loves you. There are reasons for the delay. You have to trust Him. If the answer hasn’t come yet, does it mean that it never will? No, it just means that it hasn’t come yet! Maybe there are circumstances that have to change first. Maybe your heart has to change first.

Stay strong in faith. Keep listening for His voice. Be obedient to the things you know you need to do. Praise Him regardless of seeing answers. Praise Him for the answers. If what you want and need is of value to you, there’s no reason to stop believing.

Don’t Be Caught On The Sidelines : There’s Water To Walk On

walk on waterWhy was Peter the only one to hop out of the boat and walk on water? We don’t need to go into what happened next. The point is, he walked on water! What were the other guys doing? Watching him. They were scared. They didn’t believe. They weren’t willing to try it. They missed out.

Are you watching from the sidelines? Are you thinking: I have a job and a family, I go to church, I read my Bible, that’s good for me? No need to change the world? No need to release the kingdom?

Sitting on the sidelines is dangerous. Jesus was pretty cross with the Church of the Laodiceans. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. (Rev 3:) I’m guessing that God is calling you to do something, anything. You may not be responding because you haven’t learned to hear His voice. Or maybe you know exactly what He wants, but you don’t want to do it. Either way… dangerous.

What have you got to lose? I shudder to think. What have you got to gain? Peter walked on water! No one else did. You haven’t been called to the kingdom to do nothing. Time to get before God and find out what He wants. Don’t be scared. It will be awesome once you trust Him.

Have You Stopped Hearing God? Time To Be A Sponge

I heard a great teaching recently that I had to pass on. Why is it that sometimes we feel so dry spiritually? We remember the times of joy and refreshment and wonder what happened? Where did God go?

spongeHe’s still there, but He’s changing you. Think of your spirit like a sponge. When it absorbs all it can, there’s no more room for anything else. You need to dry out a bit so God can refill you with new revelation. You’ll be able to absorb more after a time of quiet.

I think it sometimes gets hard to hear God when He wants us to come closer. We’ve learned what we needed to on the level we’re at. Now He wants us to step up higher, closer to His throne. We have to press in more and listen with our heart for the gentle encouraging He gives us.

Don’t allow the enemy to lie about the quiet times. He wants you to think you’ve done something wrong, that God is mad at you. No, no, no, no! Rebuke that lie and don’t believe it. God is and will always be madly in love with you. Let those times of quiet do the work its meant to and you’ll find God in great, new, and wonderful ways.
